Why People Were Leaving?

- First off, many people were attracted to North America by

the thoughts of a new life, and cheap, good farmland. Others

were forced to leave Europe. The Irish Potato Famine pressured

many to either leave, or starve to death. New inventions from

the Industrial Revolution took over numerous amounts of jobs,

forcing others to leave.

Late Loyalists. Who Were They and Why Were They Coming?

- Late loyalists took up a large amount of the settlers arriving in the Canadas. They were true loyalists that had waited for the compensation of their losses during the American Revolution.

Travel Experience

- For the immigrants, travel to Canada was neither easy nor peaceful. The ships used were meant to transport timber. Because of this, the ships were not very sanitary; they were crammed, and infested with rats. The overall trip was extremely unpleasant. All that was to be heard was the groaning from the sick, and the smell was atrocious. More dead arrived in North America than living. This led the ships to be best known as “Coffin Ships.

The Changes That Were Taking Place.

- Several changes were taking place in the Canadas because of the large influx of people. Many foreign languages, cultures, and religions were introduced. The French Canadiens, in particular, were once again in fear of losing their culture.
